it's not a lot, around 20€, but it's my landlords money and the receipt is kinda messy because they wouldn't sell 2 appliances (washer/dryer & dishwasher) on separate receipts because it's going to the same financial plan thingy

but like at first i linked my landlord a dishwasher that cost only 200€ and he promised to pay for that. then the price jumped to 280€, i hadn't noticed it was on sale before. he said it's still fine. then i looked into the payment plans and decided to go to a different retailer because i couldn't pay mine in full immediately and the plan was a lot cheaper. the cheapest washer they had was 300€ but they promised the shipping for half price, so it'd be pretty much the same with the other retailer. ok, i went in and tried to order them both. they couldn't deliver the dishwasher before june and i've already rented the place for a full month without actually moving in yet and i need the dishwasher, so i picked the 2nd cheapest model that went for 333€. so the initial price was 200, now it's 333 + installation + the water protection thing. i'm kinda dreading explaining this to my landlord because like ok he probably won't care that much, i'll give him a short recap and i did the math comparing the other retailer & what i landed on, the difference is only around 18€ with the other costs included & i decided to pay for the shipping because they only charged it once, but STILL

i hate spending other peoples money

i'm putting in probably hundreds of work hours doing renovations on the flat without charge, raising the value of his property, so he's happy to pay for the materials in general. i planned an extension to the kitchen counters, built the frame from my own materials etc & he agreed to cover the plumbing changes (for another washer vent), the countertop & a dishwasher, because it all adds value to the place.

it's honestly great to have a landlord who cares about the place enough to put in some $$$ to maintaining and upgrading it, values the actual labour and still lets me live there for the price i started renting it for. good guy landlord

i feel like for a landlord that would be a huge risk though, cuz if you're not a professional you could just as well fuck up somehow and damage his property. good luck tho i mean you're lucky to be in this situation

i've given him a list of things i'm working on and everything that needs professionals (plumbing changes, installing the appliances) i've hired people to do. i don't touch electrical wires or fittings or anything that could damage the water insulations in the shower, and we've talked it through via email so he's pretty safe

like of course i could do terrible work and wreck the whole place but lucky for him i don't. it's always kind of a leap of faith to rent anyway if u start thinking about everything that could go wrong.......

Your landlord is saving money
since you’re doing the renovations
That said, I doubt he’s going to be upset

i've been thinking about how to put all the info i wrote on the 1st message on this thread to an email and like i don't want to bother him too much either but it'd be SO much easier for me to call him and explain why i didn't do as i told him. i'd hear his reaction and know if it's all cool or if i should offer to cover the difference because i don't especially want to pay extra either but like if he gets tense about it i totally get it and will pay. what do u think, is it ok to call him over this or should i just send an email?

If hearing his reaction will lessen any confusion, call
i really don’t think he’s going to be upset tho
it happens nor is it unexpected
when renovating

thank you!! i'll give him a call tomorrow or on monday. and it's almost certainly the last thing he'll need to pay anyway, i'm not 100% sure because haven't painted the doors yet so something small might still come up but we're probably in the clear now and i think my initial calculations weren't even that much off, yay
