Rob Zombie

I used to joke that my mom would play me White Zombie/Rob Zombie in the womb
and I made that joke around her about a year ago, and she was like, "no, I actually really did that..."

anyways I think this explains a lot about why I am the way I am lol.

How did your parents taste in music affect you?

I'm bummed I've never gotten to see rob zombie live.
tracking down the weird audio samples in some of his older music is what introduced me to exploitation films! (which is a thing someone now wants to interview me on for publication, wow)
his influences have led me down so many interesting weird historical rabbitholes (like spookshows, wow)

even tho I don't listen to him as much as I used to, he's the single greatest media influence on my personality and interests.

Also having such rare interest in modern/popular music growing up, seeing Rob Zombie on MTV Cribs as a kid was a huge deal for me lolol

Thanks to my parents
I’m a fan of blues and country.
Although, it feels natural to like the latter
since country is nothing but
the blues with a twaaang

I used to hate country because I'd only really been exposed to that post 9/11 pop country pro america bullshit
and as I've slowly discovered outlaw and classic country, I'm hooked.

mom was a big fan of blues though

Death Proof is definitely a play on classic exploitation films.
Actually, almost everything Tarantino has done is borrowed from exploitation films

Yea exactly
I really want to start watching the films he’s taken stuff from
It might be a bit hard to find the films to see
but would you mind recommending me something to watch?

Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! is a good place to start if you can find it.
Russ Meyers estate seems to have a tight grip on it though.
Foxy Brown is easy to find
the original Gone in 60 Seconds
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry
She Devils On Wheels
Anything by Herschell Gordon Lewis if you're down for gore horror (he literally invented the splatter genre)
The Curious Dr. Humpp is one I've only seen clips of, but Rob Zombie samples it ("use my body to keep you alive" ) but I can't find the whole movie in English  unless I buy the blu ray.

theres a show that Something Weird Video uploaded to youtube called Reel Wild Cinema which is abbreviated versions of lots of exploitation movies and is a lot of fun to watch.

Thank you so much! You’re the coolest!
I have three weeks of summer holiday now so I’ll use my time well and watch some good cinema.
The show seems super interesting as well, I’ll have to look into that too.
