I got a genetic test to find what medications do and don't work for me and it showed that I have a mutation that makes me unable to process folate in its natural form from my food, so I started taking a supplement that's processed in a way that my body can absorb it
and y'all
I didn't realize how sick I was until I started feeling better, because in a matter of days my blood pressure is back to normal (it was super fucking low), I'm not lightheaded anymore, I feel less weak and tired and "dazed" feeling, also my nerve pain and numbness has significantly diminished (I still have spinal issues that contribute to that) And the weirdest one? I can sweat now - like I'm straight up working on a farm for the summer and I was not sweating enough to cool my body and constantly overheating, and now, I sweat like a normal person. All in a matter of days.
I also learned it can contribute to depression, anxiety, other psych disorders, cancer, chronic pain, nerve pain, chronic fatigue, the list goes on...
And it's like, a super fucking common mutation (30-40% of people have it) but not everyone becomes anemic from it.Â
The weird part is, none of my bloodwork has ever shown that I'm anemic, but I reckon it's been quite some time since my last labs were done.Â
Anyways that's my brain dump on some health bullshit
I kinda wanna get an even more in-depth test now, but this was all insurance would cover.
have you ever had a genetic test done?
