be relaxed,, make sure you set one of ur leg on the toilet seat while the other on the ground,, or sit on the toilet and spread ur legs and put it in that way
u could also lay down i suppose, although that method for me personally hasn't worked

it takes a bit of time getting used to and i still don't always succeed with folding it out when it's inside,, i would guess it has to do with me being too tense and not relaxed enough,, it's esp harder the first day of my cycle but the days after that are rather easy and then when my period is getting less and less it will also be harder 

but all in all? recommend the cup 100%,, has saved me so much pain from the tampons as well as money !
