I have almost exclusively talked in dialect for the last 1,5 years, standard German will sound so forced help

I don't got any tips. I think I am coming off very cold and uninterested in school to the people I've met so far. Imagine being excited to start a new school year. Also, I think I might be coming off sorta dark and a bit strict too. (i got 2years of online school + 2 covid semesters)  can't socialize anymore.

But srusly, i think you just gotta joing after school stuff. Ask if something is going on in the weekend or something

Why can’t you socialize
as you did prior to Covid?
I guess I’m misunderstanding
the post/your situation

Because it's been a long time and I'm rusty at talking to people that are not my family or old ladies who speak the same dialect

You will be thought of as uneducated and rude.
If you would talk with a strong dialect during presentations, I think they even give you a bad grade.

This is literally what I have been doing and everybody I have meet has been very friendly and understanding. Also if they are not understanding do you even want be friends with such people, in a weird way this maybe helps one finding the good ones among all the people.

Also as someone already said go to the different uni activates. I personally suffer from a lot of anxiety so I know how hard it is to got to these events but it feels so rewarding because one, you overcome your anxieties and two, there are bunch of lovely people out there.

Honestly it's a bit fucked up how they treat people who have a strong dialect here. It's mostly people from rural areas and it depends a bit on the dialect, but in general we are seen as uneducated, stupid, backwards.
