If someone divorces (man and woman, not married) and the sister of the woman has children who have gotten children, which makes the woman and man aunt and uncle(??) to the children. would the man still be the uncle when he's technically not rly in the fam anymore beyond being a friend?

yes, this is today's question
bc my aunt said my dad was the uncle (in norwegian) of her children's kids and i'm so confused
there's something not adding up and i'm terrible at those relations terms

is it granduncle maybe

You’re welcome..and it’s pretty cool that
your aunt still considers your dad as such.

emotionally yes of course?
my aunt's husband has been there for literally my whole life, i think he's my godfather even, i don't think why i would think him any less of my uncle if they would divorce
not like i consider aunt and uncle very family related words anyway, my friends kids calls me aunt too. that's just.. logical ig?

I think she wanted my dad to actually meet half of the kids since he hasn't really done that yet. They got born a few months after they divorced and dad hasn't really been much a part of my mom's side of the family since then. We're also quite a small family at this point. Dad only has his sister left on his side, and has for most of my life, and we lost my aunt and grandmother on my mother's side this last year. And since I live with dad, and they come here now and then when they're in town and can, to visit us and my bunny, it's sorta reasonable that they want to meet him too, I guess.

I sorta just gotta make sure he's home because he doesn't like being home a lot.

the children of the sister would be the man's non-blood related nieces and nephews and her childrens children would be grand niece and nephew

I don't have any type of relationship with my sisters dads family even tho I did when my mom n him were still together, so I would say no. Not on paper, not emotionally,. Unless u want but I wouldn't, its weird

It's not really my emotional bond. I think he's okay with meeting them. I don't think he much identifies as uncle, but I think they will tell the kids he is their uncle or whatever

i don't understand shit
so i will roll with uncle as a substitue
bc i gotta translate that to norwegian and that's gonna make it a ton more confusing

think of it as him being their grandmothers brother-in-law

Oh I don't consider anyone in my step dads family (currently married to my mom since I was like 7 mby) as part of my family either, so I think it just depends. For me they are just random people that I am forced to spend time w lol
