anyway to the actual topic--

i'm not 100% sure which parts of our traditions belong to which side of the family since my mom is finnish and my dad is finnish-swede so there's a bit of cultural mix and overlap. especially since both finns and finn-swedes tend to have their own differences by municipality. i don't wanna doxx myself though sorry

my parents consider casseroles and karjalanpaisti as must have. fortunately dad doesn't like lutfisk so we don't have to suffer. his mom allegedly loved it but i never got to meet her. i'm a very picky eater myself so i mostly eat köttbullar and none of the actual "christmas food" lmao. not even ham.

i'd say our traditions are fairly usual though. just about every finn watches snowman, eats rice porridge and visits the graveyard. my parents aren't religious enough to go to the church. all of this takes place on the 24th, even opening the presents. 25th is just a normal day.
i had to look all of the food up and it looks SO good

i know so little about sweedish or finish food and i'm really starting to think it's a crime
i have some pork in the freezer and everything to make köttbullar,
i think i have a birthday project

i think that makes the most sense, celebrations being on the 24th rather than the 25th

when at moms: im not allowed in the kitchen so im just in my pajamas watching cartoons until dinner

when at dads: we eat traditional food from finnskogen (like motti og flesk), or dopp i grytan and rakfisk
i do this with every broth i make!! i didn;t know it had a name!!

and honestly is a day watching cartoons then eating with family really a bad day?
