in my city, we have a tree lighting ceremony. it's held downtown with a small festival of vendors. there's small gifts like stocking stuffers, beer, wine, food, and lots of things to see. its a whole event and lasts 3 nights (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) with them lighting a new string of lights each night, adding another color. in the past I've seen White, gold and red, red green and gold, blue, purple, and white (that year the last lighting (blue) was held on the first day of Hannukah so it was less traditional colors)

my family tradition is that we always receive one gift the night before christmas, and it is always matching pajamas. It happens to make the stray photos easier to math with a year too, which is a nice bonus
(it also means all of my PJ pants are Christmas)

and then a personal tradition of mine, is to bake on Christmas day specifically something with cinnamon.
And then i write on 8 little pieces of paper: accomplishments, proud moments, and things i did (positive things) and with a different color i write a wish or hope for next year. And every day leading up to the new year, i burn one. The one that's left becomes my new years resolution.

It has do be changed manually and can only be done by one person
Which is a bit unfortunate..

that should be rectified tbh because like what if that single person isn't around or worse - quits lmao

It is indeed very vulnerable
But having others who might not know how to deal with the code is also very vulnerable, as just a small wrong turn can give bad results

It seems to be a choice between evils

There's also some other aspects to why it is one person dealing with the code, but yeah

anyway to the actual topic--

i'm not 100% sure which parts of our traditions belong to which side of the family since my mom is finnish and my dad is finnish-swede so there's a bit of cultural mix and overlap. especially since both finns and finn-swedes tend to have their own differences by municipality. i don't wanna doxx myself though sorry

my parents consider casseroles and karjalanpaisti as must have. fortunately dad doesn't like lutfisk so we don't have to suffer. his mom allegedly loved it but i never got to meet her. i'm a very picky eater myself so i mostly eat köttbullar and none of the actual "christmas food" lmao. not even ham.

i'd say our traditions are fairly usual though. just about every finn watches snowman, eats rice porridge and visits the graveyard. my parents aren't religious enough to go to the church. all of this takes place on the 24th, even opening the presents. 25th is just a normal day.

i know code enough to be confident enough to not break it (especially with such a small change) but i understand the caution ouff

Oh yeah, I mean if it is marked out clearly probably it should be fine
I'll look into if there is a solution though, so it won't be hours and hours before the link is attached to the calendar.
But there are some limitations so we'll see what will happen. Crossing my fingers 🤞🏻

we watched snowman and Santa claus and the magic drum so many times in school i feel like i will never willingly watch them again, this christmas i have promised to watch the magic drum movie because last year we watched all the daniel craig james bond movies and i think its only fair

honestly i was never a christmas person but as a kid i really liked the traditions like reading the bible jesus birth story, eating green marmalade balls  and way too much chocolate, and getting too many gifts like socks that i would grow out so fast

my grandma made pomanders each christmas and there were a lot of christmas elf decorations,
and a jesus birth thing centerpiece? imo, the weirder the better, like i have seen those pieces of literal wooden regtangles being like seriously thought to be cool??

adult christmas for the last 4 years have been that my now fiancee makes us food and sets it up
all the basic things like rice porridge during the day, and later we have a big dinner consisting of sweetened potato casserole, carrot casserole and swede/rutagaba casserole, smoked salmon with rosolli , multiple different cheeses, a special big butter dome, and saaristolaisleipä (rye bread made with milk and syryp) i might be forgetting something but anyway. This year I have tried out making gluten free datecake, and those have been pretty successful, idk if im goign totally gluten free for this christmas but i will probably try to limit it bc i know it makes me have pain/bloating/ect due to ibs/random stomach issues

we are vegetarian so we have tried many types of veg based ham/meat substitutions but no luck yet, all of them have been very meh this far

We also might have ikea's veg bullar ball things but not sure yet

we invite my dad over to eat on christmas eve and it has been fun listening to christmas music like boney m's christmas album

My family and I usually eat Christmas food and have a good time together.
We open packages in the afternoon.
If possible, we usually stay in a hotel over Christmas Eve to have a good time.

when i was vegan, i used to freeze tofu in a marinade, thaw it and roast it in the oven. it was pretty good. obviously it's not ham since it is ya know... tofu. but it is really good

i really think music is the best part of christmas
