Tbh I don't think Americans should complain because WW II wasn't even in America. But anyway like I said the symbols differ due to the 45 degree rotation that the Nazis used. So they might look alike, but you can't deny everything that looks like something you feel negative towards.

"ww2 wasnt even in america" uhm ok but lots of americans suffered and they were involved in the war. sure it wasnt on mainland america but it did affect the american people
ok v grateful for saving us

She did use the Ohm on the forehead. Is is just as sacred as the other. It might be cringeworthy to you, but it's very important in my culture. It was taken advantage of during that time in history, therefore people misinterpret it's true meaning.
(i just want to say that i totally respect that; it's just not something it would feel right for me, a white european (culturally) christian, to use)
It's understandable that it can make people uncomfortable. But you have to take into consideration of how it was used before the holocaust. I'm trying to explain confusion, so sorry if I came out a little harsh. People should expand their horizons instead of just basing a symbol on one specific event (as Op did) if she had looked into it, she would see it's meant for peace and for other special occasions. I know I've marked the Swastik on auspicious occasions such as a new house/new car/wedding ceremonies before in my life. So depending on how much you are exposed to other cultures, yes people can assume it is bad, but there is more to it than that :')

You have a really good point, but unfortunately not everyone thinks to look into things that way. That's a critical thinking skill that you don't even learn about in the u.s. until you enter college/university (when you're about 18, usually), and even then it's a hard skill to learn.

Anyway, I honestly didn't even think to look into to it, so thanks for pointing it out. I really appreciate you pointing out it's importance in your culture, and I'm sorry that the Nazi regime used it in a bad/mean way.

One question, who brought up Americans?

same, even though i'm aware of it being a common symbol in hinduism it would have been easy to just.. not include it in a design for a site where most of the users are european/american "
well i brought up america together with europe because i assume a lot of americans associate the symbol with nazism... and even though they werent as affected by ww2 they still fought in it so

idk anyway after reading Vig's pov on this i dont really mind that this symbol was used, i guess i was a bit quick to judge

I mean, Vig even did a lovely write up about it a page or so back. I understand if you don't want to use the hands, but I think it's pretty unnecessary to bring down the folks here who use and love it for its original purpose by pitching a fit about it :/

what i meant, anyway, is that you can't expect people to drop parts of their culture because youre uncomfortable with it, whatever the reason for that might be. yea this is kinda farfetched on fucking vitualpopstar.com but entitlement is universal

are there really ppl who did not know that the Nazis took the symbol from religion though?? honest question because i though this was general knowledge.

It's uncomfortable to look at but I understand it's for a culture, and I don't think it's right to hide religious symbols because some dickhead made it into a hate symbol. You can reclaim a symbol just like reclaiming a word, others shouldn't have to suffer the consequences just because it makes us westerners uncomfortable.

because if you really didn't know then i understand that you're like "what's that doing there?"

but if you did know and you only object because you're ~uncomfortable~ then that's just dumb

(i just want to say, again, that my pov was never about denying hindus of using this symbol, but rather questioning if it was a fitting symbol to use on a site where very few users are hindus and many probably associate it mainly with nazism - but i guess it can be a learning experience for those who didn't know, at least today when the item is actually connected to learning abt holi)
