mmmi think when i've been to funerals on mom's side of the family, that's pretty much how we've done it, church/casket/food
but when we held moms funeral we didnt rly ave food and celebrating i think, people came to our hosue i remember that. but i also got overwhelmed and just went to my room to cry lmao

That’s how i remember my great grandpas funeral too

But with my grandpa it was sliiightly different bc he refused church. He was cremated so his urn was on a pedestal surrounded w flowers. After the ceremony we had smörgåstårta + speaches
It wasn't until a couple of months later we actually buried him and that was kinda funny gigl
When we arrived at the grave he was supposed to be next to the hole for us to place him in there but we couldn't find him! And then we finally found someone working like uhm wheres our grandpa- turns out they had misunderstood so he was in the church! We made jokes abt "good thing he was already ashes so he didnt burn up in there" 😂

ive been to one like you described with church, burial and a gathering of family and friends, one where we just visited and sat w the body for a while before it got cremated, and one ash spreading ceremony

i thought the ash spreading ceremony was really beautiful, we did it at sea by the place he felt most at home, listened to his favourite songs and spread flowers
the one where we visited before the cremation was nice too, i had never seen a dead body before so i was a bit unsettled at first but honestly thats the death i feel like ive had the most closure with. dead people look really dead, seeing it made it more real and final and ive accepted it in a way that i never will with the two others. they feel like theyre supposed to be alive, thats all i know them as, while she feels like shes supposed to be dead idk if that makes any sense at all

the church funeral just felt cold and procedural and and the priest was talking nonsense. then we dropped her in the ground and ate cake like idk, it just wasnt for her, it was all for our own comfort
i see a funeral as the last time you get spend together with the person, not as something that happens after they've left so the other two were so much more meaningful

ive never been to one, my dad never got a funeral because my mom used a loophole of having him cremated in switzerland and then transfering the urn to germany. in germy u technically are not allowed to have an urn at all lol.
so hes still at my moms place and has never been ... funeraled to hte ground.

i dont know any other ppl who died that i cared about so i have literally no idea what germans do for funerals. i thik its common to go toa restaurantafterwards together tho

although with my dad we didnt do church or chapel, but instead we held the burial at home in his atelier/gallery where he and we were surrounded by all of his artwork and creations that defined his life so much. it was a bit different and some people found it odd but it was the very right way to do things, my dad was different and odd. ofc there were smørrebrød and kringle after
that sounds relaly beautifull tbh
apart from the smorrebrod that is

u should make preperatiosn so that after ur death ur ashes get put into lil shaker pins u designed beforehand and then those get send to ur friends and we all take u with us on our bags and u see the world.
now this makes me sound like i want u to die soon so i can get a pin

It's usually church, burial and repast
When my father passed we had two services because of his work/service
The first one was more formal, open to everyone, the second was only family and close friends
I'm not a fan of repast because I never eat when I'm sad so I usually pay my respect to the family and leave

If I'm diagnosed with something terminal
I want a living funeral while I'm still here
It doesn't seem like a celebration of life if I can't hear or appreciate things said about me
and I want flowers while I can appreciate them

my family dont do funerals, just straight for cremation with no service or 'faff'

my best friends was absolutely soul crushing, wrote a eulogy, coffin just sort of vanished behind a curtain and then post service went to the wake to eat and cry
