When you meet someone
do you introduce yourself as
“Hi, I’m Autism” or “I’m Claire”?
Idk, it’s just that people seem
to allow their diagnosis to define them rather than
“I’m a person with diagnosis x, and I’m living”
Or at least, that’s the vibe

It’s not solely an autistic thing either
imo anything that prevents you from
living your best life (excluding money/material things)
or enjoying regular activities is a handicap.

I hope this made sense

I mean yea it’s literally a disability lmfao almost everyone on this site is literally handicapped and you say it like it’s something we should have shame about. That’s the vibe I get when you say people on vp are a certain way  like it’s lowkey ableist

I apologize if my post made you feel
shamed in any way
since that wasn’t the intention.

As for my vibe
It’s likely that I’m biased
by the determination of my patients
they’re fighters
so if that translates as ableism
or any other negative connotations
it is what it is
but sorry for that too

It’s the kind of words you have to be careful with. Like Jew. Like you can say “six million Jews were killed” but you can’t say “the Jews are behind this” and “don’t be such a Jew about it” like it’s not inherently a bad word and it has proper uses but for gods sake be more careful with how you’re using it and if you’re not sure just don’t. I think this was an example of a lowkey ablest use of handicapped tbh and not the one to emulate it came across as mean spirited to me even if that’s not Londons intent it was easy to read it that way and not at all a stretch of the imagination.

I think that if you think Claire simply pointing out the the ableist tone in that message count as haha funny you got triggered, you should take a step back and re evaluate what sort of person you are

It's hard for me at least to understand ow the world is experienced through the lenses of neurodivergent individuals, but I don't think the fact that some of the users here are disabled necessarily gives them a large handicap when it comes to how it will be on gosupermodel, or how it is on this site. If anything, I think these sites can contribute to more understanding for people like me, who gets to see and be educated about people with different diagnosies or perspectives that I normally wouldnt meet in my day to day life. Thats not to say there should be laid any responsibility of educating me on anyone BUT myself, but it means that through part taking in the discussions where people like e.g Claire who is open about who she is and what her diagnose is, it helps me understand and also see people like her for who they are and not just who they are viewed as by people who look down on them. Idk if that makes sense, but I find a great relief in knowing that people who are in some way neurodivergent get to experience spaces where they can be themselves and find a community that includes them regardless of their diagnoses, if that makes sense I dont know if it does this is so clumsily typed out!

Also, ye be careful using the term handicapped, context is important regardless of the physical or mental handicap the individual might have, it should never be used derogatory or as a way to justify actions that negatively effects individuals.

And Claire, you don't seem triggered, that's an idiotic take by the person exclaiming it
