How to Deal with Midterms (by Rosalie )

Hey everyone, Hailee here!

I'm finally back with a new article for you guys! This relates to me 100% since I'm going to school, and my midterms have just wrapped up, and now we are onto finals! Now, since this isn't my first time in college/university, I wasn't worried about the whole midterm situation, but I do have a lot of first-year friends who were freaking out! So, if you're in this same position, I'm going to share a few of my tips today with you! Do you have anything special that you do to prep for a big test? Share them with other players and me :)
Tip #1: DO NOT LEAVE THINGS TO THE LAST MINUTE

I cannot stress on how important this is; I always see people saying that they haven't reviewed and it's now the day before the test! Trust me, as you start to read your study notes, you'll realize that there is more than you thought there was, and if you have questions that you want to ask friends or your professor, well now you're running out of time. A little tip that I use is that when I'm in class, I type up my notes. But as soon as the class is done, I sit down and write my notes by hand and try to put them in my words!

Tip #2 DON'T BE ASHAMED FOR THE WAY YOU STUDY

This is one that bothers me a lot, each study in their own way. Some make flashcards; some use online studying sites(Quizlet), and others just print off their notes and read them a few days beforehand. Whatever you prefer doing, use the technique that you know works best for you! A good example of this was, I recently had a psychology midterm, and I had gotten flashcards from a girl who had already taken the class, well I sat there and typed up all of the flashcards and shared them with my friend. That person then got very overwhelmed with all of the info, and had to write a new review a day before the test. Never take the easy way out when studying!

Tip #3 USE YOUR RESOURCES

A lot of campuses will offer workshops or seminars that will help you study. Or they even pair you up with someone who has been in the class before to help you with your notes and stuff like that, try to get informed on what your school offers, and honestly, don't be ashamed if you are getting a little bit of help. If it brings you from a 50% to a 70% then who cares? Your education is more important! You can also set up a study group where a bunch of you and your friends get together and study, this way, if anyone has questions, someone will be able to answer something that you are not understanding.

Tip #4 HAVE SOME "ME-TIME"

As stressful as midterms can be, the last thing you want is to burn yourself into the ground by studying so much. Always remember to take a break from studying and do something that you enjoy! A few things I do are: Only check my phone after I've read a certain amount of pages, Give myself a reward after something gets done, And even stop everything when I feel like I've worked myself too much. Another thing that I like to do is get myself a fancy bath bomb, and just take a bath for hours on end!

I hope that you have found these tips useful, and good luck on any upcoming tests!!

I personally also find it really worth it to jot my assignments and deadlines down on a whiteboard or somewhere where I know I will see it every day. Right now I have all my deadlines and work written down on the whiteboard in my locker because I visit my locker about 15 to 20 times a week.
One of your tips I know I need to work on is the "Me Time" thing tbh

Actually a lot of people, including myself, work best under stress. If I have a report to hand in with a deadline of a week or two, getting started right away gets me nowhere since I'll end up doing a lot of other stuff; and knowing it's not due for a long time, I'm in no way motivated. However, 2 or 3 days before deadline, I literally sit typing away all those days and end up finishing.

Really great article. I'm very happy that I'm school stress-free for this year. But something which bothers me really hard is people making jokes about me because I start early to study for a test.
I can't wait to be done with exams. They're the worst! So jealous of you.
