Call of Duty has definitely got a reputation as a repetitive first person shooter game heavily associated with the typical gamer. However for this review we are going to put the story mission and generic online multiplayer aside and focus on Infinite Warfare’s rather unique zombie option. By no means is this the first time that the Call of Duty franchise has chosen to include such zombie options, for example both their first and second Black Ops games have a variety of zombie maps to play. None of which I find compare to Spaceland, the unique map on Infinite Warfare.
It is a map based in the 1980s which takes place in a large amusement park. Your goal is to turn on all the switches to bring power back to the park while surviving the zombie apocalypse! You can play locally, offline, or you can take part with online multiplayer with up to four players!
The zombies spawn in waves and as the waves increase so does the difficulty, although that is just part of the fun on offer here! As you begin to open the new locations across the amusement park you find new opportunities. An example being that in the Polar Peak section of the map, once the power has been turned on, you are able to jump onto a rollercoaster ride! The aim of the ride is to hit as many targets with the gun provided as you can. You even get tickets as prizes which can be spent around the park, just like a real theme park.
But it is definitely not all fun and games in this amusement park, every six or seven waves you get the formidable zombie clowns! The screen goes darker and you hear the squeak of their little horns as they spawn out of air and run towards you. On impact these bad boys explode so you need to bring your A game in order to defeat them. They may sound like the scariest enemy you will have to face but that’s not quite the case. The biggest and possibly pantie wetting enemy is known as Brute. He is huge and will destroy everything in his path, either with his large feet or the lasers that he shoots from his eyes!
So why exactly do I love this game? Well to put it simply it has been incredibly fun exploring and discovering new parts to the map with my bestfriend. Over the last month we have been playing it online on our Xbox’s and have progressed all the way to level 27, which yes we are very proud of. The fun of it lies with squealing when you realise you are out of ammo and having to do a mad dash away from the zombies, or worse – Brute himself! Or when your other teammates are working hard and you decide to be completely unhelpful and hit up the ride I mentioned earlier just to give your thumbs a rest. One of my favourite features that was brought to the game is when you die during a round rather than having to simply spectate like you had to in previous games you now go to the afterlife arcade. In the arcade you get to play loads of little mini games to collect soul power. After collecting a certain amount of soul power you are granted a token that allows you to come back to the amusement park and help your fellow teammates.
There are so many other parts to this zombies map which I haven’t touched on but I think you can all get a fair idea at how this game can be wonderful fun especially with friends!
