Great job, America. I guess the bath salt zombie outbreak in 2012 wasn't enough for you-- now you have to have a clown problem too?

For those of you who somehow haven't heard, over the past month or so there has been a sudden slew of clown sightings across the country. At least 37 states so far have confirmed reports of creepy clown sightings in various places: the side of the road, on street corners, in forests, or right outside people's windows. 

There's been plenty of speculation over the mysterious clowns' true intentions-- some people think they may be copycats with too much time on their hands, a very strange advertisement for an upcoming movie or videogame, or disgruntled halloween spirits brought on by everyone's collective anxiety (seriously!). 

Creepy nighttime clowns have been used as advertisement before of course, one of the more notable ones being Gags the clown-- a marketing stunt for an upcoming short film in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

People have also taken to comparing the clowns to Slenderman, who's popularity exploded in the past few years and led to the attempted sacrifice of a 12 year old girl in the early summer of 2014. 

What do you think of these spooky sightings? Is it a widespread halloween prank? A movie marketing stunt gone sideways? Something more sinister than that?

Oh yikes! There's been reports here of clowns mugging people and following young children with knives, but to my knowledge nobody has been seriously hurt yet. 

I heard someone shot one of the clowns though, but I haven't looked into that yet to find out if its true or not lol
