| every night the same thing. notes: i'm no poet. this isn't really a poem. i originally made it as a twine, which can be access here to click through. i decided i also wanted a copy of the text, so i arranged it into a poem. ______________________________ every night the same thing: i keep thinking there’s someone watching me from behind the corners, somewhere in the shadows i know i’m just imagining it but i still feel those eyes on me charred black skin cracking lids burnt open and staring with ugly white teeth i want to claw it all off. i want to claw off those eyes destroy those things that haunt my mind i’m deteriorating. i can feel it. it’s like falling except slower, more gradual and at the end you don’t hit the ground no you don’t hit anything at all because you’re always falling it doesn’t end like slowly descending into a deep deep abyss whirling loud violent vortex so angry you can’t sleep with that kind of noise in your head try it. try sleeping with your demons wide awake. trust me: you can’t you can try all you want swallow those pills dry keep them on your night stand get some stranger with a degree to tell you something you already know except on paper but it won’t work maybe you can fool yourself but it won’t work not well enough anyway maybe it helps for a while maybe for a while you feel alright but then you turn off the lights one day find yourself listening for the sound of silence something in the corner of your eye on the cusp of your awareness and that’s when you realize something: every night the same thing. x |
