Homestuck Act 7 Review019-04-2016 22:57

 ReportHomestuck Act 7 Review
Homestuck Act Seven Spoilers Below!!!
So it's not likely anyone will read this. But six days ago, the ending to the webcomic Homestuck ended.
You can read it on MSPaintAdventures.com.
I, for one, was extremely disappointed with the final flash animation. Many things were left extremely vague. I had to check the wiki to see if Lord English had been defeated or not. Calliope and Roxy were shown holding hands--are they a couple or not??? The only confirmed ships were DirkJake, and only because we were promised that would be canon again before the end of the webcomic, and RoseMary, which has always been canon. JadeDave and DaveKat were both heavily implied to be canon, but neither one was 100% confirmed.
(My money's on DaveKat.)
The animation style itself is great, however. However, I wasn't happy with the contrast between style and scenes--the style itself was chibi-like, but there was a lot of rather violent action, and I felt like it contrasted too much. It was still fine, just...the mood wasn't balanced.
I'm not so happy with the content. As previously mentioned, it was extremely vague. On top of that, in the 9 minute animation, three of those minutes are spent with a frog flying through space. It's a very important frog, who is animated very well, but that's basically what it comes down to.
I feel like it skipped between time periods too much. It was constantly toggling between the kids and trolls fighting the villains, Caliborn defeating his denizen and receiving unconditional immortality, and the ghosts fighting Lord English.
I feel like it was rushed. Hussie was in a bit of a rush to finish the webcomic, which is understandable, since it's been running for seven years already. I think that if he took the time to break it down into several flash animations, then it might have been better. Don't get me wrong with any of this--I liked the ending enough. I feel like as many loose ends as possible were tied up--we got to see all the main villains defeated, the alternate beta kids' souls released from the treasure, how Caliborn received his unconditional immortality, etc. But I was still left with many questions. What happened to Aradia? Did she get sucked into the black hole? Which of the ghosts survived? What about Sollux, Feferi, and Nepeta, who flew off a while ago? Where did they go? What happens to Davepetasprite^2 and ARquiussprite? Now that the game of Sburb is over, what happens to them? Do they just...fade away, since their services are no longer needed? Do the kids keep their god tier powers in their new universe?
Hussie suggested making an epilogue, though it would take a rather long time. And I hope he ends up writing it, because I was rather displeased with the ending, and I would love to see it expanded on.
