like they even say 'take what you need and leave the rest' like youre not supposed to get into it like a cult youre supposed to GO and be with people who are sober together and talk about your struggle and learn a few of their little slogans to help you thru

Um Iiterally let a psychiatrist know about my intake which means a note about in on my record 4rver and having to be "monitored" but w/e lol 

So glad to know I'll never be cured if I dont go to aa

being born to a single teen mom who was a mentally ill alcoholic who was desperate to find a way to make things right, I remember how easy it was for her to get roped into church programs that quickly became culty
I remember the last church though, the pastor told my mom "you're more than welcome here, but you are looking for something you aren't going to find in a church and that's okay"
and hooooly fuck was that a game changer for her in the best possible way

I think you're doing great and I'm really glad you got psych help for you and your mom. 
recovery isn't easy or quick or linear at all

It's actually ridiculous that ppl are acting like aa is the primary gold standard for treatment and to be wary of it is denial of a problem in the year 2021
