Basically bc a bunch of the big religions think in some kinda way that we should take care of god's creation and all that. Being greedy and consuming a lot could be a sin arguably tho we gotta convince the big corps billionaires of that i guess

and religion is capable of bringing a lot of people together and sets standards on morals and stuff which could improve our chances

but yes there are also several arguments as to why it would not work like mexwall mentioned with the gods plan stuff among other things
im ngl I actually think religion is part of the reason why people are turning right wing and not believe in climate change if we didnt have religion things mightve looked different (only looking at climate change not morals). The only people I know who believe in climate change are either non religious or barely religious. We are living under politics lead by religion so yea we can only change if people look at the facts which religious people are not really known for sorry not sorry. Also as long as capitalism exists the earth wont heal
yeah im just trying to figure out the connections here
i read somewhere in a paper that white protestant christians are the ones that believe the least in climate change which makes sense in a way but like , what would make them change their mind . . .. what roots their beliefs idk

but yes capitalism will be the end of us
i think they would only change their mind if jesus itself came down to talk to them

ive been reflecting a lot lately on religion, and i guess i have mixed feelings. i was born and raised in a catholic family; nothing too extreme, i went through two of the seven sacraments (baptism and confirmation), i didn't really go to mass with my family as much, although my dad used to go a lot when he lost his business (he used to have a small business with two employees, + my mom) and we had to move out of spain because we were about to lose our home and end up homeless, etc. when i was living in my mother's country, peru, i went to three different religious schools. in one of them, when i was like 10, i confessed my "sins", those sins being liking girls, and the Father told me to repent, and sent me to pray.

throughout all my life ive heard wonderful things about what jesus of nazareth said and did, i will confess that, to this day, im still amazed by him as a figure, regardless of whether or not he is the son and the human version of the christian god. i also have seen how cruel his followers are, though. they don't treat others with respect, they don't love others, they judge and almost punish you for not following their rules, they tell you you're sinful for loving or for acting different, etc.

regarding climate change, i can not imagine, having my context in mind and the kind of religious people ive met (and exclusively talking about my religion), someone like that ever caring about the earth we live in, if they can not even bother to care about the living human beings living in it

sorry for the yapping before answering the question, i just needed to paint my context a little bit, but hopefully ive written it good enough for you to understand the connections i tried to make +
ill add that when i was more of a catholic, i didn't really know about climate change but i did think that the earth was god's biggest gift to us, and that we had to take care of it because of that. i also thought that regarding human and non human animals

Super interesting topic! But i feel like most of the people on the EN server are atheists. I can totally see the connection between religion and caring for the earth, I'd especially expect this from buddhists for example. I'm sorry I can't help you out, as I am not really religous myself. I often find myself wishing I was though. I feel like it would take away a lot of my anxiety.

this !!!! this is the potential of religion im seeing . it doesnt need to be christianity or any existing religion that fixes climate change but i feel like religion as a concept has the general characteristics that could change the world . as it already has

Skimmed some, I feel like the consensus seems to more lean towards saying that religion could be a powerful way to spread info about it not that religious people are more concerned

I’m just used to reading academic articles, check the abstract and results, obvi that leaves out a lot of info and you still have to judge the credibility by reading them fully and checking the source journal, but it’s a good tip when searching for material to use in essay without having to read too much

but okay that makes more sense then, I just thought that was your stance because of the do you think more people should be religious question 😭it’s an interesting topic for sure though…

idk what the scope off your essay is but oooking if there are some research on climate change change denial + religion specifically could also be interesting maybe

I'm non-religious and I don't think religion will save the climate.. It's the attitude of the people that would do that..
