I don't rlly see prevention as that possible, or like worth it, but fixing the whole prison system would do immensely good and focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment, which as of today only causes people to re-offend.

Yes! that would help a lot but majority of incarceration is non- violent drug charges and minorities and once you've been convicted you no longer can vote! As well as free labor is legal for prisoners
Yeah I know, its a lot of bad stuff. In some states u have 3 strikes before ur in for life too, even if its murder or small drug charges which is honestly ridiculous but yeah. Looking at statistics they have an incredibly bad re-offend rate compared to for example where I live (norway). Of course we have less ppl here, but the crime rates are also incredibly low in comparison. Obv from more than just the prison experience as a whole, but i think that plays a major part in it, so thats why i think that it isn't good to give police less money if the crime rates are still as high
On this note, the system allows this to happen, and actually insures it! I mainly learned this after watching 'when they see us', they make it almost impossible to make a living after doing time. Its criminal.

Personally I don't think that would work! You have to hit them where it hurts, which is their pocket. I don't know how one can justify $4.89BILLION going into policing. How much more is necessary for them to stop murdering people?

See I think it isn't good to compare countries in this because the police in the US is founded on capitalism and racism and it doesn't matter how much money or training we flow in the system itself is flawed and always will be, it isn't good vs bad its a corrupt system exploiting it's ability to get away with crime

Public schools are constantly being defunded and on the verge of being shut down but police forces have never been threatened

This!!! There are kids in poverty! Kids who can't get free meals at school! Homelessness all over! Try applying to therapy and you'll be on the waiting list longer than a cop is in training! Something ain't right !

I agree but I also think there could be massive improvements regardless of it being steered by capitalism or not

The reality is, the police and prison system profit way too much off 'crime' to restructure their system.

Cops hang out around my cities alternative school because low income children go there because they need to get jobs so young they dont have the time for regular school hours. I was in there for training and there where holes in the walls from lack of maintenance and it was just a reused elementary school that was made from a shut down factory

Yes so take that money and improve the system with it instead of doing whatever they are doing with it rn

We had a cop over in school once a year to teach street signs and drug laws and stuff and it made me so uncomfortable that he showed up in uniform and with a very visible and loaded gun :/
