Stereotypes are a leftover survival instinct we have from when we had to use our gut feeling to not get killed.
Therefore it doesn't have anything to do with race, but instead with experiences and what we've seen. If the media and governments keep labelling one group as violent or terrible in another way, and that's the only exposure you have to a specific group of people that'll be the stereotype your survival instinct will create for you. This is why diversity in media is so important, and why you just have to highlight a specific group in your news in a negative light, if you have an agenda.
