On the 11th Hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 world war 1 ended. Remembrance day was set in place to remember all of those who had died for their country so their deaths were not in vain. Poppies are a symbol of remembrance day as soldiers first saw poppies after the war and so they became a sign of new life and hope.
Today, we celebrate Remembrance day to remember all of those who have lost their lives during war. To commemorate these soldiers people wear either a red poppy or a white (signifies peace) poppy and hold a 2 minute silence at 11am.
We have remembrance Sunday (which is the closest Sunday to the 11th, this year it is today, the 10th) to remember them in the church and to hold memorials for those who have lost their lives during war.
So, don't forget to have your two minute silence tomorrow at 11am just to remember those who have risked their life or died for your country.
