Arbor Day! (by

I'm sure some of you don't know what Arbor Day is, don't worry! I'm here to tell you all about it. Arbor Day is a holiday to celebrate trees. Arbor Day is usually a holiday in the United States but over the years some other countries have decided to join in. Countries like Japan, Australia, Korea and Yugoslavia. This holiday doesn't have the same date every year because it's celebrated on the last Friday of April. This year we will be celebrating it on April 24th.
Facts:
-The first Arbor Day was celebrated on April 10, 1872 in the State of Nebraska. More then 1 million trees were planted on this day in Nebraska.
-1 tree and absorb as much as 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year, and can also preserve 1 ton of carbon dioxide by the time it becomes 40 years old.
-The creator of Arbor Day was a newspaper reporter named Julius Sterling Morton. He began this tradition to bring importance to trees.
Things you could do to contribute to this day:
-Plant a tree.
-Buy some plants.
-Visit a park with lots of trees.
-Recycle.
-Spread awareness about the lack of trees.

There will be three contests! That's right, three! They're all equally special and everyone can participate in them. Isn't that great?
Contest #1
The first contest is for the artists in the community. All you need to do is draw a tree, not just any tree but a tree that represents you as a person. Make your tree as beautiful as you possibly can! Post your tree here.

The second contest is based off a question, a very important question in my opinion. The question is: Why (or why not) do you think trees are important? Should there be a holiday just for them? Please send your answers to the event team model, click here to go to the profile.

Contest #3
The third contest is a little longer, it has around four questions that need to be answered. This is how it goes;
If you could plant a tree...
-What would you name it?
-What would it look like?
-What would/could it symbolize?
-Where would it be planted?
Send in your answer to the event team model, click here to go to the profile.
