Back to school! 8/19 (by Private)

It's already that time to starting hitting the sheets a little bit earlier and figuring out what classes to take. I'm not going to lie to you and make school seem like an ice cream sundae, I definitely have my cons and dislikes toward my school in particular. However, we have to go if want to be successful, so let's make the best of it. First, I am going to start by telling you what I like to pack with me in my school bag. Maybe it'll give you some ideas or something to look forward to. Usually during the beginning of the year I pack the basics. As the weeks and months go on your teacher might tell you what you need to bring in, and your backpack will slowly fill. I like to bring two college ruled spiral notebooks and one 5 subject notebook. This way my bag still stays a bit light while also having 2 backup notebooks just in case a specific class requires an individual one, such as my biology. Next, writing utensils. When it comes to pencils I prefer lead pencils. I also love to write in pens, so a few blue and black ink pens are great for me to have. Some classes requires them, too. In total, I would bring about 6 lead pencils and 5 pens. Let's not forget to bring some tissues. Whether it's for first day of school tears (just kidding, we have to stay positive!) or a runny nose in class, they'll come in handy. I'm not sure about you, but my classes can get quite cold. Whether I'm sick or not I always end up with a runny nose and it's the worst. A little pouch to hold your "girly" items. I don't think I really have to go into depth with this, but including little things you might need including pads, tampons, lip gloss, hair ties, etc. That's it! Like I said, as the weeks go on you will get specific item requests from your teachers. These materials are just to get your first week of school started. Good luck and don't psych yourself out. I know that school can cause a lot of stress, even weight loss and changing your overall mood. Hopefully I can brighten your day with a delicious, weekend treat. Just look over in the box next to this!
Recipe
Here's a really delicious onion ring recipe for you all. Use this as a weekend treat to relax and "pig out" every once in a while. I got this recipe from Laura in the kitchen, so it is extremely similar. I've just swapped out a few items that I personally like.

Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 25 mins

Ingredients:
2 Large Onions, peeled, cut into rings and each piece separated
3/4 cup of All Purpose Flour
1 ½ to 2 cups of Buttermilk
1 egg
1 tsp of Baking Powder
1 tsp of Paprika
1 tsp of Salt
A few dashes of Hot Sauce
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Vegetable Oil

Let's get started!

  • Get a pot and fill it with oil. Not too much, just enough to cover the onion rings so they fry evenly. Turn up the heat to medium-high and let it heat up, feel free to test the oil by putting a drop of the batter in and checking to see that it fizzes and fry's.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, buttermilk, egg, baking powder, salt, pepper, hot sauce and paprika so that you have a very smooth mixture.

  • Dip each of the rings into the batter, be sure to let some if it drain off and then place it into the oil. Cook for about a minute on each side or until golden brown.
Drain on a paper towel lined plate and serve immediately! Hope you enjoy this recipe. For more, go to http://www.laurainthekitchen.com/. I recommend watching her youtube channel, Laura in the Kitchen. Have fun!
