With summer being just around the corner, I thought I would share some of the books that I have recently read! Please note, that not all of these books are new, I just have a massive collection of books that I hoard. I tried picking different genres of books, but considering I’m a mystery or romance fan, the pickings were slim! If you have read something on this list, I would love to hear what you thought of it! If not, tell me some of the books you are planning to read over the course of the summer! I love new suggestions!

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
A mystery, a murder and a drunk. In this debut novel by Paula Hawkins, she entices us in a world of mystery and sadness. This book focuses on the life of four characters who are all intertwined in some messed up web! The story revolves around Rachel and her actions; Rachel is a rider of the train each morning and afternoon during her commute to work. During this time, she spies on a couple who live in her old neighborhood; she gives them names and envies how happy they are. When the wife goes missing, Rachel makes it her mission to find out what happened.

I loved this book because it always had me on my feet, I was always wondering who had committed the crime. You will learn to love some of the characters in this book, others you will hate. You can also check out this book on the big screen this October!

After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid
What happens after that pivotal ‘I do’? Taylor Jenkins Reid shows us another side of reality that not everything will always work out the way they are planned. When Ryan and Lauren’s marriage starts to fall apart, they decide to take a year-long break from one and the other. During the break, they must have no contact, and they are free to do whatever. Including seeing other people. Taylor does a fantastic job taking us through Lauren’s journey; she does this by including flashbacks of when the two lovebirds first met and married.

This book is raw, real and honest. After I had read it, I questioned my relationship and how I would be able to survive if I had to take a one year break from it. I cried and laughed reading After I Do, it allowed me to embark on this incredible journey of how no matter what happens, things will be okay.

Between Here and Forever by Elizabeth Scott
How well do you think you know your family? Elizabeth Scott lets us explore the world full of romance and secrets in her latest book! All of her life, Abby lived in the shadows of her sister Tess, all she ever wanted was to be like her. When Abby’s sister Tess ends up in a coma, Abby wonders if she even wants her sister back. This would be the perfect moment for Abby to shine as bright as she has ever wanted! Abby goes on an adventure with her new friend Eli and discovered that Tess had many secrets that she was hiding from the family. Abby learns to respect her sister even more than she ever has!

I could not put this book down; I even ended up finishing it in one day! I loved this book for many reasons; firstly I’m always a sucker for a good romance! I love how each of the characters had issues that they wanted to overcome while all are working together. Secondly, this book made me question how well I knew my family. I wondered if they had any secrets or something from their past that they were hiding!

The Nest by Kenneth Oppel
You know what they say, things aren’t always what they seem. Kenneth Oppel brings us an eerie tale of hope, but what happens when things go terribly wrong? Steve has always been an anxious child, with fears of the man standing at the end of the bed, to being left alone in his home. Steve’s parents have just had another child, but this child is very sick, and it is putting a strain on the family. When Steve starts to have dreams of angels who promise to make his brother better, Steve says that he will do anything to cure his brother, but what happens when these plans take a dark turn. This story pushes boundaries, and we get to see how far Steve will go to save his brother.

This book scared me; I kept on looking around my surroundings for the next week or so! It’s a relatively easy read as the book is small and the printing is rather large, and hey, there are even some sick sketches in it! I must say, for someone who started out as a children’s author, Kenneth sure knows how to bring the fear for all ages! Also, major props to both the author and artist who are Canadian!
