I had teachers call it dirty before, when I did it the traditional algerian way which is usually done for celebrations like eid and weddings, its a circle on your palm, or sometimes your entire front bit of your hand and fingernails, and another occasion a teacher tried to make me scrub it off before getting into the swimming pool!
lmao that's dumb as shit! i'd smack those teachers i'm so sorry u had to go through that

i've had henna done plenty of times esp before some relatives' weddings (which in indian cultures can go all the way up to ur elbows) and i've thankfully never experienced that
I love how Indian culture do crazy ass designs! In my Algerian culture it's much more simplified but we do sometimes do designs hehe
yeah ours are usually crazily detailed! i didn't know other cultures were more simplified, but i'd love to see it! i can try to hunt down pics of when i got it done for my cousin's wedding in india

I think we should draw limits between what's cultural appreciation and what's cultural appropiation. If you know nothing about the culture of some activity, clothing, hairstyle, or whatever you're taking from a culture that you're not from, then I'd consider that as if you're using cultures as a trend. If you actually know the meaning of whatever you're taking from any culture, and understand the origin, then I'd consider that as cultural appreciation.

Algerian isn't too speacial, like I mentioned before its usually a circle or all over the entire palm, people also do it on the soles of their feets !

Exactly this :-) I also think it should be respected ! I think what triggered me to do this post, is an article I saw about top 10 celebs who popularised henna and none of them were arab or indian :-L Shits only cool if westerners do it I guess

I'd personally would be a *little* frustrated; there should be celebs from the countries that have this culture in those articles, not people from other cultures.
It's cool if you want to try it out because it seems interesting, but do not take the light from other people who practice this because it's their culture

it just annoys me, because I grew up shying away from my culture because of bullying but then someone takes an aspect of it and people suddenly love it

Would I be able to comment as a person who isn't arab/indian but has grown up in an arab country with arab relatives?

Thats how I feel! Like I told my friend I'm not entirely against people doing henna you just need to understand its background and use it with the right intentions

How many people who are offended or feel like it's CA, take action tho? Are they stopping peeps wherever seen and voicing their opinion?
