Do you serve it hot or cold?
Either way, I would try it
It's served cold!
Not sure if it's super common, but we add an almond, and whoever gets it in their bowl, receives a little prize, and then the winner buys the prize for next year. It's always fun sitting there with an almond in your mouth, pretending no one found the nut and then people start eating more dessert in hopes of getting it
Ooh, I like that custom
and it reminds me of rosca de reyes
Instead of a almond, a toy baby is found in the cake
A what now!!

Me not liking ris a la mande, never being able to try and get the hidden almond 3
AWH nooo... I love getting it and pretending I didn't, just so everyone else can take more dessert or start looking around in the pot for it
Everyone in my family always does that! And I just sit at the end and try and observe everyone, bc I know these guys sneaky af!
Also it's definitely common here!
Yeahhh, I always try to see who is hiding it when I know I don't have it, it's like a fun little game.. unless my grandpa gets it, because he forgets and just eats it lmao

mashed swede is repulsive tho, fuck tradition ill eat it with mashed celery root
I like lamb
Does it take a long time to make?
I’m not a fan of rutabaga
but for some reason I think
it would go well together lol
me too!
it's kinda time consuming yes, cuz the meat has to be salted, smoked (optional), dried and then watered out over night so you dont die from the salt and steam cooked for a few hours. but the first two steps are usually done already when you buy it so it's not that complicated

Are those limited to holidays too or is it more of a regular eating?

I could kind of imagine that with sweet potatoes honestly, hmm.
They’re usually served during the holidays
or Sunday dinner.
There is a variation that includes
marshmallows but it’s called
sweet potato soufflé or something like that.
I definitely heard about them baked(?) with marshmallow! It always kind of set me back a bit, because I can't help but think who in their right mind started that, what a weird combination?? But then again we eat caramel on potatoes, so can I really judge? LMAO
I like marshmallows but usually
just for s’mores or ice cream
I love holiday duck too!
Even tho it’s simple to make
I always think it tastes better
when my mom makes it

Oooh never heard of it, just googled some images and it looks quite interesting!
Does the toy baby have any specific meaning or?

A baby figurine lol
When I first had the cake
I thought finding the baby meant
getting pregnant so I had a tiny slice lol
but it’s a Mexican tradition
and whomever finds the baby
makes tamales for a celebration
that happens in February

i love eating the rind off of the ribbe, but im not particularly fond of ribbe in itself (its basically just pork belly thats commonly eaten on christmas eve i dont thing u do anything too special with it when preparing)

but the rind turns out super crispy n yummy

however for chrismas dinner meats i like medisterpølse the best, which is a sort of sausage w super minced meats n fats w spices lmao it sounds gross i guess when actually thinking of whats in it, but consistency n taste is very nice
and also something called innmatpølse which translates to ?offal?sausage but its basically medisterpølse just w added lungs n hearts ..... but also SO yummy

also christmas dinner HAS to be served w lingonberry jam!

as for not-christmas-eve-dinner-foods i really really do like kabaret  which is (usually) shrimp n fish + peas n carrots and hard boiled eggs in aspic
i like it on sliced bread

me trying to find a picture that makes it look the most appetizing but there really is none... its not one for looks
