One of my favourite books is the same except switch out the mold for water damage. I used to lend the book to my best friend who didn't have a copy but we were both obsessed with the author, at the time, and we did it so often that it has just become fairly beaten but I'll never buy a new copy. It can be noticed how much I love it too as none of my other books are like that - though one is becoming fairly beaten already x3

I get it completely. I'll be the first to admit that I can be very sentimental and materialistic but it's not a bad thing. I'm not like a hoarder but I do have sentimental value in my items and they help me to remember the good times too. I really don't like minimalism and I love being surrounded by items that represent good times I've had and things I love.
sounds beautiful haha, i'm not much of a hoarder though. I wish I had the motivation to decorate my room in a more personal style, but I haven't found the right time to.

Aaah it reminds me of the thought of battered books. It highlights that love that a person has had for a book
I hate the idea of thing with comic books and stuff they they must be in "mint condition" etc.
They're made to be loved for their content and to be read all over again. Not suction packed in bubble wrap!

I really love this article, it's really amazing <33
I agree, I have this copy of The Secret History by Donna Tartt, it's at least a decade old. I took it from school, its pages are all yellowy and there is even mold in some places. Yet I just can't stop thinking about the previous owner(s) reading the book and pouring their soul over the text. Then give it away for the next reader to read the same text and experience it in an entirely new way. It's why I love it so much.

Perhaps I'm just too sentimental about these things, but it reminds me of that quote by Oscar Wilde (which I live by): “Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
