I wish Kaj would participate in weeks like this and have a certain % of money people pay for credits be donated to some cancer research centre.

But anyway, great that you guys are raising awareness!

Yeah, that'd be awesome!

I was going to explain it later on during ET's part of the event where I actually explain the fundraiser. However, since some people are upset about the timing, I'll explain the timing a little bit. In August, I lost my aunt to cancer. Before we lost her, she had all of these plans about promoting awareness. She had plans for her cancer's awareness month, and she also had plans for Christmas. Now that she's no longer here to carry out her plans, the only Christmas gift I can give to her now is to donate in her honor and help promote awareness with her as the inspiration behind it. Later in the fundraising part, I'm using my own money to donate based off of how the event goes. I'm not asking anyone to donate, my goal is just for more people to be aware.

I realize that thinking about cancer's impact makes people sad, especially around Christmas but the goal of this event is not to make anyone stay sad around the holidays. It's about exposing people to a different outlook. A lot of people feel like Christmas is supposed to be strictly a merry occasion, but this illness is still a reality for a lot of people whether it's Christmas or the middle of June.  The purpose of it being done around Christmas besides a gift to my aunt, is because Christmas time is also a season of giving and where people are more willing to look on the bright side of things. It's a time where a lot of people give back and try to make the season merry for others. The only solace I've had this Christmas season has been the thought that I can take something negative that I'm experiencing and that a lot of other people have experienced and turn it into something positive. Yes, cancer brings back negative memories but the point of this event is to show people and encourage people that their loved one's story does not have to stay negative. The reality of it is that cancer or its negative effect on someone's life isn't just going to stop because it's Christmas time. There has not been a single day since her diagnosis that I haven't thought about my aunt. You're all entitled to your feelings and I'm sorry if this event is upsetting to any of you, but it's also therapeutic for some because they can see they're not alone in dealing with something like this and that they have peers who have been/are going through it too. It's a way of me giving the only gift I can to her and it's an outlet for people, but it's mainly about taking something that's a negative and seemingly hopeless experience for many people and finding a way to use it to spread joy and to help other people, especially in a season where that will matter most. So if it's not helping you, I completely understand, I am sorry and I don't blame you for not reading it, but please be mindful that it is helpful to others and try not to ruin it for them.

it's not because i hate this topic or something, but serious..
i dont like it so much cuz it reminds me of my grandparents - and I lost my grandfather, so this is making me sad..

I wonder how many other people are getting bad memories from this, like this.

I think it's just really bad timing for such a thing.
Good idea, bad timing.
Like, it's the holidays people.
Be happy for fuck sakes. omg.
Whoever pushed this article and the events to come, you seem selfish.
But happy holidays, folks.
I agree. It was my moms birthday three days ago and she died two years ago. As if I wasn't already reminded of another Christmas without her, lmao

I'm seem selfish? They both had cancer and i lost him for around 3 months ago - do i really look like a selfish person? You would probably be sad too If you lost someone who had cancer aswell..
I'm almost certain the "you seem selfish" part was more directed towards whoever decided to put out cancer awareness in the holidays, as events and articles.
