Young Royals (by Private)

Most Scandinavians, or at least Swedish people, have probably heard about the new Swedish Netflix series called “Young Royals” but this might be an unfamiliar series for some of you. If you haven’t seen the series and would like to avoid some spoilers then I would recommend skipping the next part, I will talk about what happens in the series in that part.

Disclaimer: The series is age restricted to 13+ since there are some minor sex scenes in the series, if you are under the age of 13 then don’t watch it.

The Netflix series is about the Swedish prince, Wilhelm, who after a wild party where he gets caught on camera headbutting another guy creates drama around the royal family which his family is very upset about. Because of this, the royal family decides to send the prince to a boarding school in hope that he will learn how to act like a proper royal. When the prince first arrives at the boarding school he gets greeted by the principal who then brings the prince to a welcome ceremony. During the welcome ceremony, the school choir sings a few songs and that’s when the prince gets eye contact with the lead singer in the choir, Simon, who is an openly gay commoner from the working class. At the school, the prince quickly gains popularity due to his royal title and his second cousin who also is a student at the school makes sure that the prince gets to be a part of the boys who also hang out together. However, prince Wilhelm is more interested in hanging out with Simon and throughout the series, we will follow their wild rollercoaster relation with some real lows and but also some lovely moments where they are closer to each other than ever. We will also follow Simon's private life and see his struggles with money, being an outsider at school and his dad. The first season of the series ends on a real cliffhanger where Wilhelm and Simon never really expressed their true feelings to each other and their status would probably be considered “complicated”. A season 2 have not yet been announced but due to the great response to the first season we can probably expect a season 2 within a year, and hopefully, we get to see Wilhelm and Simon’s relationship evolve in a future season.
In this part of the article, we are going to get to know the main cast of “Young Royals”.

Prince Wilhelm, one of the main characters of the series, is played by Edvin Ryding who was born in Stockholm on February 4th in 2003. He is an 18 years old Swedish actor who has been in multiple Swedish series.

Simon, who is the other main character in “Young Royals”, is played by Omar Rudberg who a Swedish singer and actor. He was born in Venezuela on the 12th of November in 1998 but moved to Sweden with his mom when he was 6 years old.

Sara, who is the sister of Simon, is played by Frida Argento who is born on 30th January 2000. This is Frida’s first major acting role and therefore there isn’t a lot of information about her.

August, who is the second cousin of Wilhelm, is played by Malte Gårdinger who is the son of the Swedish actor and model Pontus Gårdinger. Malte Gårdinger is born July 23rd in 2000 and is a Swedish actor and singer.

Felice, who is one of the popular girls at Hillerska, is played by Nikita Uggla and this was her first acting gig. She is born on April 14th in 2001 in Skåne.
