I'm an avid Korean drama fan. Whenever I have time I will watch this drama, or that drama or whatever I think sounds nice or has a nice cast or an interesting subject. Of course, not all of them are good and I've gotten mislead a couple of times, but most of them are totally worth it. So today I decided to write about my personal Top 5 Kdramas of 2015 [Disclaimer: I am completely and fully aware that I haven't seen all of the dramas, maybe some of them really good dramas, so don't be afraid to put in your suggestions in the comments and please don't say 'You've left this or that out! How could you?']
Starting with number 5:
I Order You Although it's more like a sitcom than a drama, I had to mention it. Initially I thought the name was funny sounding and kinda... kinky [oops] but seeing how Jung Yunho of DBSK was playing in this drama, I really wanted to give it a chance. It was sweet and funny and really cute. One downfall, it always made me hungry and left me craving for Korean food. What I liked about this [other than the fact that I could stare at Yunho cooking, which was an absolute eye candy] was the silliness. I'm not kidding, the facial expressions of this drama, the closeups and how silly the characters are was really enjoyable to watch. It is cliched, yes. A very cliched love story, but the comedy makes up for it.
Number 4:
My Unfortunate BoyfriendNo Minwoo plays Mr. Unfortunate, who is a very smart biologist and has a PhD. Who would've thought that the guy handling poop fertilizer for the plants in a big company would be such a smart guy? Not only that, but cute and handsome too. The drama is a cute, funny romantic drama where people can witness the evolution of a woman, who only cares about position and status to someone who'd be okay even with Mr. Unfortunate by her side. Taewoon [No Minwoo] is an innocent guy, someone who hasn't experienced love before but who slowly starts to warm up to Jina [Yang Jinsung]. What I liked about this drama was the fact that it is light and funny. It is something which is bound to make you laugh.
Number 3:
Scholar Who Walks The Night Now, this is what I call cast for the sore eyes. I was initially attracted to this drama thanks to Shim Changmin [the other half of DBSK] and Lee Hyuksoo [Or Soohyuk, his stage name]. Fact is, I started watching this only for these two males, especially since Hyuksoo is one of my favourite Korean actors, I said why not give it a chance? Boy, I did not regret it. Along with Lee Joongi, the Scholar, Changmin, the crown prince, Hyuksoo as Gwi and the rest of the cast I experienced and immersed myself in 20 fantastic episodes set in Joseon dynasty, filled with fantasy and romance. It's cliched, as almost every Korean drama I know, good vampire, bad vampire, vampire who falls in love with a human, human who sticks by the vampire's side. You name it. But all in all, it's a really nice drama to watch. Beware, you will want to ship the main female character with someone else than she's supposed to end up with.
Runner-up:
I Remember You Who doesn't want to watch a drama with Seo Inguk? Not enough to convince you? Then how about a drama where Do Kyungsoo [aka D.O of EXO] plays the role of a psychopath? Well ... he's basically showing his true self and true nature, but that's even more fun. I remember you [or Hello Monster] is a detective, cop kind of drama [with the obvious pint of romance going on]. Lee Hyun [Seo Inguk] is an excellent criminal profiler, despite his bold and cunning tongue. There are plot twists which will keep you watching episode after episode. There's comedy which will make you laugh every other episode. The cast is wonderful and the acting is great. All in all, one of the best dramas I've seen, not only this year but ever since I started watching dramas.
First place:
Blood This is hands down the best drama I've seen in 2015 and it has earned its spot in my favourite dramas of all time. The reason why I started watching this drama was due to the fact that the cast came to Romania to film a couple of scenes, I accidentally and coincidentally saw Ahn Jaehyun on the street while walking towards a book store AND the fact that Ahn Jaehyun is talking in Romanian in the movie. It was an absolute must to see him speak Romanian and I had my fair share of laugh. But I decided to continue watching the episode. And then another episode. And I got hooked on it. The story is about a vampire who works in the hospital as a surgeon. He has to fight and not give in to the urge of drinking blood. It is there he falls in love with a co-worker. Although at first he can't really be bothered to acknowledge her, he slowly starts to fall for her and viewers can see this process. What, however, is key to this drama is the comedy. I ended up laughing for 18 episodes like crazy as if I were to have been watching a comedy and not an actual dark themed drama. It is easy to fall in love with the characters and to empathize with them. To whoever shall ask me about my favourite dramas of all time, this drama will be in the first 3 dramas I mention.
Special mentions:
Dr. Frost [I would've added this one but it started in 2014 and ended in 2015 so that would've been cheating], School 2015, Midnight Dinner, Hyde Jekyll, Me, High Society
