British Stereotypes: Debunked (by Callum )

We drink the most Tea

The stereotype follows that all British people live off of sipping tea and we do it more than any other group of people. This is false because it's been proven that we are 3rd in the spectrum as 2 other countries are larger consumers of tea. The average amount consumed by a person in Turkey is 6.961 pounds, and in Ireland, we see a shocking 4.831 pounds. However, the consumption in the United Kingdom is actually 4.281 pounds, hence why we don't drink the most tea!
British Accent

Automatically, people presume everyone living in Britain possess a ''British'' accent, but this is not entirely true. There are actually a variety of different accents and dialects aside from the posh accent most people associate us with (e.g., Kate Middleton's accent or The Queen). Usually, it's common for someone from the South of Britain to sound different than someone from the North of Britain, so don't assume we all sound the same! Not to mention, Britain is made up of many different cultures with a variety of accents.
They have terrible food

While this is a matter of opinion, there are quite a few nice snacks and food items to eat in Britain that you might enjoy. Some well-known delicacies from Britain include foods like Sticky Toffee pudding and what we call a Sunday Roast. However, many cities have different food traditions than others, hence why not all the food is bad. For example, people in one city may enjoy food that is uncommon in the other. Moreover, pies are great to try, and there are a variety out there such as Apple Pie, Bacon and Egg Pie, Black Bun, Corned Beef Pie, Shepherd's Pie, Custard Tart, Mince Pie and Pork Pie. It's assumed one of the best foods we have to offer is Fish and Chips, but it's a fact that there are many other foods available to try.
We all adore the Royal Family

Believe it or not, not all British people are fond of the Royal Family. In fact, the Royals don't make many of the changes within the United Kingdom. It is quite uncommon to see people discussing the Royals, and we tend to share more of an interest with the Prime Minister. Some people in Britain argue they have no significance, however, some tend to just ignore them, and a small amount adore them (at least from my own person experience!) and follow every move they make.
Hey everyone, Callum here. I had a lack of inspiration when figuring out what to write for this article but then I thought about the following: are all these British stereotypes true? We'll find out today as I debunk a few common British Stereotypes. Of course, a special thanks to HAMARTIA for the amazing layout!
Hopefully this article interested you, now it's your turn to answer some questions! Any fellow British people out there? Do you have any stereotypes you know are untrue? Or if you're from another country, are there any other stereotypes you've heard about Britain?

I lived in Scotland before and I can agree with the whole accent stuff, ofc everyone sounds different just like in all countries the accent is different depending on where you are and Scottish people hate people from England in general.
But the whole tea and food thing is true tho. I drank tea all the time when I was living there only because we had tea break almost every 3 hours and the food sucks in the UK. So those stereotypes are actually true, at least from a foreigners perspective.

In Germany it is normal that people learn the British accent in school.
My online friends from Great Britain said while we were skyping, that I have a stronger British accent than most britains. I can't wait to visit my best friend in a town near Brighton in two weeks! I am very curious about how it will be there! If anyone wants to, I will make some pictures and videos on Snapchat, I can show a little live material of Britain! 😂❤️

@London

Kate's accent is basically what I mean by ''posh'' accent. I also added that in the article now so I'm more specific, thanks!

I'm always confused about the "posh"accent. Is it usually associated with the upper class or by region? Curious since "posh" is sometimes used to describe kate middleton's accent.
Enjoyed this Callum..the next one should be about Harry!! Hamartia did a nice job with the layout as well!!
