Also called Birds of Prey (and the fabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn) is a "follow-up" spin off of Suicide Squad, released in 2016. It stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, a character well known in the DC universe. It follows Harley Quinn after a break up with Joker. Fans of Harley Quinn and Joker will know their relationship is not a healthy one by any means. It will be interesting to see if HQ will finally stay away from Joker, or if she'll ever be his devoted follower, even at her own dispense.
After their break up, HQ joins fores with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl named Cass from an evil crime lord, Roman Sionis. The whole story is told through the point of view of Harley herself. Fans of the first Suicide Squad film will want to check this one out, but I think it's going to draw another crowed as well, ones who may not have enjoyed the first suicide squad but have been long time fans of Harley and her adventures. I have not seen the first one, but I may have to see this one.
Birds of Prey; And the fabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn comes out this Friday, February 7th (though release dates may vary in other countries).
If you're like me, Mulan has been one of your favourite Disney movies, with it's lovably characters (looking at you Mushu) and very catchy songs. With Disney being on a bit of a live action remake kick for the past few years (Aladdin, Lion King, Jungle Book) Mulan is the next one to get the live action remake, but minus the lovable characters and singing. This time, they decided to go for a more historical and raw remake this time. When I first heard the news that they were making a live action remake, I was excited! Then quickly disappointed once I heard there would be no musical numbers. How are they going to make a man out of me now!!??
I will admit, after seeing the trailer, I am a little less skeptical on seeing it. Does it resemble the first movie? Kind of. Does it look like an interesting story non the less? Yes. One of the first things I noticed about the trailer was the names were different. I am unfamiliar with Chinese culture and names so maybe these names better represent that culture, but it will take some getting used to none the less. I will say that with working at the movie theatre, I have seen this trailer so many times that I can recite it word for word. In the end, I will definitely be seeing this movie and I think it will draw in a a lot of the old animated Mulan crowd as well, even if they are skeptical about it. Mulan hits theatres on March 27th, release dates may vary.
It's about time Black Widow got her own movie! After the wide success of Phase 4 of Marvel releases, we move on to a new, unknown phase. This movie is set to follow Natasha on an adventure that take place between Civil War and Infinity War. Not much is known about the movie other than what is shown in the trailer unfortunately, but there will definitely be another trailer released before the movie is set to release on May 1st. The villain of the movie is rumoured to be Tony Masters/Task Masters (a villain that allows him to replicate observed actions from others, including fighting styles).
Scarlett Johansson has described this movie as an opportunity for her character to show "a woman who has come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself" while being in a "dark place where she's got no one to call and nowhere to go." I think it will be a powerful message to a lot of people, especially woman. Black Widow has always been a bit of a role model to women, even if the right choices haven't always been made. A strong woman who can hold up in a fight and not back down, that's the kind of woman I want to see in the media.
You will see a few familiar faces in this movie, including David Harbour (known probably most famously from Stranger Things), playing the Red Guardian, though he's let himself go a little haha. This will be Johansson's eighth time playing Black Widow. I for one can not wait to see this movie, and get shivers every time at the end of the trailer. Black Widow comes out May 1st.
Ever wonder what life would be like living as an NPC in a video game? This is basically what Free Guy asks and answers. Staring Ryan Renolds as the main character, "Guy" working as an NPC at a bank. He starts to question the world around him, wondering if there's something more to life than being robbed at the bank on a daily. One day, he decides enough is enough and fights back! In so doing so, he discovers he's living life as an NPC in an open world video game (kinda like a Grand Theft Auto style game). Not much is known about it other than what is shown in the trailer, but with Ryan Reynolds starring alongside Taika Waititi (known for directing Thor;Ragnarok and other great movies) and Jodie Comer (known recently from the newest Star Wars movie) it is sure to be an action comedy at least someone will enjoy. Free Guy comes out July 3rd, but times may vary.
