It is time to get to know another one of the amazing designers we are so lucky to have here on vp. This month, I have gotten the chance to interview a recent addition to the ranks of official designers, Ellem, so without further ado, enjoy reading the interview!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Yes hello my name is Ella, I’m a 21 year old girl from Sweden. As for hobbies I dig to hang with my friends, both here and irl, draw, graphic design and designing/getting new tattoos. A fun fact.. I speak Japanese? こんにちは lads.
How long have you been designing for vp and what initially sparked your interest in doing so?
I’m a bit unsure but I think I started designing for vp in September last year? I know I started just a while after I joined, which was in late July 2020. I guess my interest for designing goes back to the gsm times, I really really wanted to be a junior designer at that site, and when I saw that vp also had an opportunity to design I just thought “why not?” and now I’m obsessed hah.
Where do you get your design inspiration?
I mainly design clothes I either own myself or clothes that I want. It’s often gothic or street style, with the occasional fictional character that I’m currently in love with.
What program and tool(s) do you use for designing?
I use procreate on my iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil!
Approximately how long does it take you to design one set?
Ouff tough question tbh, it really depends on the set. But usually I think a set takes me like 2-3 hours in total, I’m very fast once I actually get into it hah.
How much time do you spend designing on a weekly/monthly basis?
There’s a lot that you guys never get to see, items I’m not satisfied with or whole sets that I end up scrapping. Which means it’s a lot more time than you might think. I probably design 3-4 days a week, but those sessions can be anything between 10 minutes to 8 hours. It’s really hard to tell tbh hahah.
/ Ellem’s very first VP design, compared to one of her most recent!
As a newly badged designer, how do you feel like your approach to designing has changed since becoming an 'official' designer?
Hm honestly I feel a lot more motivation to design now. I feel like I kinda have to live up to a certain standard, which just makes me want to get better. I’m honestly really enjoying my badged life hah.
How was the experience of uploading your first set, and how did it feel seeing your own designer tag in the wardrobe for the first time?
Uploading for the first time was.. confusing. But I had dear Jess who shared her screen and showed me around, explaining everything for me before I got to upload it myself. I made some mistakes, starting with the wrong items and such, but since I had such good guidance I don’t think it was too difficult. As for the Ellem_EN that was such a trip, it was a relief not to have to search for my stuff at the nondesigner tag, that’s for sure. Tho I can say I still ain’t used to it sitting there... still looks off to see myself there haha.
Do you have a set that means something special to you or that had a special story behind it when you created it? Can you tell us why / what that story is?
I have a male set ig, which was one of my very first sets and it’s still one of my favorite ones, not that it’s well made or anything but the character is from my favorite movie of all time. I rave about this movie way too much, but it’s Koroshiya Ichi and the set is of the amazing main character, Kakihara.
