A new school year is just around the corner. Soon we will once again experience those familiar first day butterflies and awkward two minutes of introducing yourself to the class. However, there are many of you who may have moved and will be starting the school year in a completely different school, state or even country! Here are some tips to ease you into your new school..
Don't be scared. Since it is only the beginning of the school year you'll still fit right in. Although it may feel like you're wearing an "I am new" sign on your forehead, everyone will see an unfamiliar face and it won't just be yours.
Don't over think it. As I said, you may feel extremely out of place. Continuously remind yourself that there are also a lot of people new to this school and that you are not alone!
It's just school. I know advice is easier to give out than to take in, but I advise that you also keep in mind this is just school. It's not meeting the president, or being in the hunger games. All of these kids are your age and aren't superior to you in any way. You are all equal and should share a common goal - getting an education.
Motivation to get through the day. On days where I'd rather be home or anywhere but school, I set little reminders in my head of things to look forward to. Usually for me it is TV shows! Although I go to school everyday, my favorite days out of the week are Tuesdays (pretty little liars), Thursdays (the vampire diaries), and Fridays (the weekend!). Keeping these little reminders of things to look forward truly do make a difference in my day, I wake up happier and leave school with a bounce in my step!
Be someone new. Obviously you're already new to this school, so when I say be someone new I mean a new personality. This is something that can either go very right or tragically wrong. I am not suggesting that you go from good to bad, but instead from shy to outgoing! Going to a new school is like having a fresh start. No one knew who you were in the past or who you are now. It's the perfect time to toss that quiet, introverted personality out the door and make some new friends.
When moving, school isn't the only thing that will change in your life. Your surroundings and what you're used to will as well. Some may like it when things in their life remain the same, but where's the fun in that? Go outside, walk around and explore. There is so much to see and learn in this world, I don't see why you shouldn't try new things and absorb everything life has to give. Moving can be extremely difficult and we will all deal with it at some point in our lives. Focus on the positives and keep your head up. Things will go much better than you expect, I promise!
