Over the summer, you've probably heard the big hit "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring a name you may not have heard before; Charli XCX. You may have also heard the song "Boom Clap" from that XCX too. You're probably thinking, whoa, where did she come from? Lots of people are wondering that after she came out of nowhere and helped create a hit. I personally knew about the wonderous Charli XCX before those songs and I would love to tell you a bit of background information about her.
Charli XCX may sound a little weird when you say it - you may seem as if you are saying other things than XCX. You're probably thinking about what it means? It actually means kiss Charli kiss. You know how some people say xo which means kiss hug? The x's represent the kisses. At first it had another meaning that might not be too appropriate to state in this article..
Now the "Charli" part. Most people spell it Charlie. Her full name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison. With the name Charlotte a common nickname would be Charlie, but she just decided to drop the e out and keep it as Charli; since so many people are used to an e with the name it is very commonly mispelled. Maybe you think the name Charli XCX is a little bit familiar? Yes, it may actually be! A few years ago she wrote a hit song sung by Icona Pop called I Love It. Now do you remember her? Yes you do! She did not have a vocal part which is most likely why she didn't really get recognition from people, she only wrote the song and that is why it still says "featuring Charli XCX".
Charli has worked with people other than Iggy Azalea before - she has made some good songs with Brooke Candy (Cloud Aura) and Marina and The Diamonds (Just Desserts). Considering neither of those people are super popular, it was a little difficult for her to gain major fame, but she did gain some fans from those songs.
I personally am very proud seeing Charli come so far with her career and on December 16th she is releasing her sophomore album called "Sucker"! She is also currently on tour with Elliphant and Femme around the United States and will be supporting Katy Perry on tour in Europe this spring. Anyways, I totally recommend listening to some other Charli XCX songs, you never know until you try, you may think she is amazing. If you do, then I totally recommend supporting her and pre-ordering Sucker on iTunes/Google Play!
