Halfway through 2020
You must have been hiding underneath a rock to not know about how absurd 2020 has been so far, most people did not see this mess coming. So, how has these 6 months been for me personally? Back in January I wrote a blog about what I was looking forward to, to keep me going through my (hopefully) final semester in Oslo. Little did I know that my final semester in Oslo would be significantly shortened, already in March I was back to my hometown and only returned briefly to get my stuff from Oslo before I moved out. So, what happened?

January and February were both rather normal months, aside from the lurking danger of whatever sickness was allegedly crippling China, and increased focus on washing hands and paying attention to symptoms so that if you had any of them you would not show up at a doctor's office spreading the disease further. As I was living in the capital of Norway, I noticed the increasing change weeks before my family further north.  People glaring at anyone who had any symptoms even resembling common cold, especially at institutions such as university, and on public  transport such as the tram or metro. I recall there was a lot of joking about it, and some might argue that it has not aged particularly  well, and I must admit I do not agree on that but I will not elaborate.

It all changed rapidly in March, I was rather lucky given that I did not want to spend a lot of time in Oslo, so I had prior to it all  booked flights to my hometown for my birthday, a day or perhaps two before everything closed down. Because everything was closing down, I could finish my final semester of my Bachelor's degree from my hometown, drastically shortening my own suffering in Oslo. So in those regards, the year did not turn for the worse for me. I was a bit disappointed seeing that all the things I had looked forward to was either postponed or cancelled. The concerts I was supposed to attend to this spring and summer are moved to 2021 - and I am not even sure if I believe that they will happen then either.

Not to be that guy, but also I am that guy so it is like that, I was, and still am, annoyed that there were no sports. Hopefully July will see the sports I actually care about restarting or, in some cases, actually starting the season. I am well aware football is back, but I do not watch that unless it is something major like world championships. Formula 1 is supposed to start, a very short, season July 5th so hopefully that will happen. NHL, that is hockey, is expected to start the Stanley Cup playoffs sometime in late, LATE, July or August at the
earliest. Very disappointing.

April and May are pretty much me continuing looking at plants with a friend of mine, buying plants, painting furniture, and attempting to plan for a future which is impossible to predict. While also simultaneously having two term papers to write, and an exam around the end of May. After those it was just waiting some more, did I pass everything? Was I actually going to be done with my degree? I got my final grade Friday June 26th, and as I had passed them all I have 180 ECTS, i.e. a Bachelor's degree, in linguistics.

Sometime in June, I believe, I received a message that I had received an offer on a student apartment in the city I intend on studying in this upcoming Autumn. I am thrilled, I will finally have a bedroom! I am very pleased that it costs about 20e more than a significantly smaller prison-like studio apartment I rented in Oslo. Perhaps things are indeed becoming better, at least I have things to look forward to. On a more annoying (in my case) note, my health issues have increased and it annoys me a lot. In addition to some issues I have had for at least four years now, I have gotten some new, worrying symptoms which honestly feeds my mild hypochondria as they are all symptoms on  something that is rare - but not unlikely. Hopefully I will figure that out eventually, there is no rush.

Thanks for reading!
How has your year been so far?

Ooh, what kind of job are you thinking about getting with your linguistics degree? I know it sucks not being able to plan much of anything right now...
I doubt I will get a job with my degree so honestly if I'm not employed at a university I have no idea what to do.

I, as usual, have zero hopes. It's really hard to be positive when everything is going down right in front of your eyes
I don't believe in positivity, but I can assure you that negativity won't get you anywhere. You should settle for the absolute worst thinkable option and strive for the best, that way things are probably easier to handle. Hope is also like.. hm.. I don't know, hope is for the lazy.
I feel pessimistic about the situation getting better but I try my best to keep moving on; just don't believe our government will do anything helpful
It's likely it will become worse before it gets better, but in some way or another things will always become better. We just don't know in what regards yet.

I'm used to having almost nothing, but now I lost what I had. So, it's really worrisome because at least the 30-40% of the population in my country is in the same situation.
I'm pretty sure the government, as usual, won't do anything for us and will just keep stealing from our wallets so they can gain 7000 euro per month (While there's families of 8 members or so who can not even reach the 1500 euros per month).

This sucks

I think we can already sense some consequences, but if you don't have much for starters the fall isn't that great. If you are used to having nothing, having nothing in the future doesn't change anything. The student loan in Norway isn't likely to change, so my economy will be the same for the next at least 2 years, I'm more worried for people who are used to having more money. Because I ended up ending my contract on the apartment in Oslo earlier than what I had initially planned, I ended up having better economy for a few months, which is the opposite issue from others  I don't think we will know how things will be until maybe 2025, it's easier explaining things after the events, rather than in the midst of it.

Since when do you watch football
I don't??? I cheer for some teams to piss people off like in Trondheim everyone is like ahhh Rosenborg so naturally I got aaaaah Molde because that piss people of, especially my family and I thrive with that. I only watch championships. I do know a lot about football tho, and I have teams I want to do good, like Manchester United (with the former coach of Molde of course, but also in general)!
Ashahasha nice
I've always been like that, in the 00s Brann was the main enemy of Rosenborg and I was like "yay Brann" but now I hate them because it is like that so now it's Molde. And ofc underdogs because I love underdogs.
